Left ventricular dilatation and diastolic compliance changes during chronic volume overloading.

چکیده
The magnitude and time course of alterations in left ventricular size, end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP), and stiffness consequent to chronic volume overloading were examined in conscious dogs. A large infrarenal aortocaval shunt was produced surgically, left ventricular dimensions were measured by cineradiography using radiopaque beads implanted subendocardially, and LVEDP was measured via an indwelling catheter. In nine experimental and seven control animals, LVEDP was related to the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) over a range of LVEDP produced by transfusion and bleeding. In control studies LVEDP averaged 6.7 1.42 (SEM)

Early changes in left ventricular regional dimensions and function during chronic volume overloading in the conscious dog.
As the left ventricle dilates during chronic volume overloading, it assumes a more spherical configuration, suggesting a nonuniform regional myocardial response. Accordingly, we studied early alterations in left ventricular geometry and regional function induced by chronic volume overloading in the canine heart subjected to an aortocaval fistula. Nine mongrel dogs were instrumented with ultraso...
متن کاملLeft Ventricular Pressure-Volume Relationships
It has been shown in man that myocardial ischemia, whether precipitated by exercise or pacinginduced tachycardia, is associated with abnormalities of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. There has been controversy as to whether this relationship is due to decreased myocardial compliance or to an increase in left ventricular volume as a manifestation of left ventricular failure. Simultaneous...
متن کاملNature of enhanced performance of the dilated left ventricle in the dog during chronic volume overloading.
The size and the performance of the left ventricle were examined in six conscious dogs early (within 1 week) and late (average 7 weeks) after the production of a large infrarenal arteriovenous fistula. Radiopaque beads were implanted near the endocardium of the left ventricle, and in each study the end-diastolic pressure was adjusted to 22 mm Hg by transfusion or bleeding. The shortening of the...
متن کاملGram-negative Bacteremia Produces Both Severe
A canine sepsis model that simulates the human cardiovascular response to septic shock was produced in 10 conscious unsedated dogs by implanting an Eschichia coli-infected clot into the peritoneum, resulting in bacteremia. By employing serial, simultaneous measurements of radionuclide scan-determined left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) and thermodilution cardiac index (CI), the end-dia...
متن کاملLong-term Serial Changes in Left Ventricular Function and Reversal of Ventricular Dilatation After Valve Replacement for Chronic Aortic Regurgitation
In most patients with aortic regurgitation, valve replacement results in reduction in left ventricular dilatation and an increase in ejection fraction. To determine the relation between serial changes in ventricular dilatation and changes in ejection fraction, we studied 61 patients with chronic severe aortic regurgitation by echocardiography and radionuclide angiography before, 6-8 months afte...
